Activating your license
The first time you open Morgue, you'll see the license screen. Enter your key once and the app unlocks on this device.
Where to find your license key
Your key arrives in two places after purchase:
- Your purchase confirmation email.
- Your account dashboard at morgueapp.com.
A Morgue license key looks like a UUID — five groups of characters separated by dashes:
xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
Copy the key straight from the email or dashboard to avoid typos. There's no "morgue" prefix — just the key itself.
Activate
- On the license screen, paste your key into the field.
- Click Activate.
- Morgue contacts the licensing service, registers this device, and unlocks. You'll land in your library.
Once activated, you'll see your details under Settings → License:
- Plan — the plan your key belongs to (for example, Freelancer or Studio).
- Device — the name registered for this Mac. You can rename it; see Managing devices.
- Status — Active once the seat is registered.
"Inactive" is normal before you activate
A brand-new key may show as inactive until it's activated on a device — that's expected, not an error. Entering the key and clicking Activate is what turns it active.
Device limits
Each plan allows a certain number of devices (seats). If you hit the limit, Morgue tells you the maximum and points you to manage your devices. To free up a seat, deactivate Morgue on a machine you no longer use — see Managing devices and Moving to a new computer.
Working offline
After activation, Morgue keeps working without an internet connection within a grace window, re-validating quietly when you're back online. You won't get locked out by a flaky connection or a flight. See Working offline for exactly how the grace period behaves.
