FAQ
Licensing
Why does my key say "inactive"? A new key is inactive until you activate it on a device. Enter it on the license screen and click Activate — see Activating your license.
Can I use Morgue on more than one Mac? Yes, up to your plan's device limit. Activate on each, and free a seat by deactivating a machine you no longer use.
What happens if I'm offline? Morgue keeps working within a grace window and re-validates when you're back online — see Working offline.
Data & privacy
Where is my data stored? Locally, in a library folder on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded — Morgue is local-first. You can move the folder or export a backup anytime.
Do my captures go through a server? No. The browser extension talks to the app over a local connection on your own machine.
How do I back up?
Settings → Library → Export creates a single .zip with everything — see Exporting your library.
Capturing
The extension won't connect — why? The Morgue app must be open for the extension to reach it. See Troubleshooting.
Why didn't it grab the fonts/colors I expected? Extraction reads what the page exposes; image-baked type or unusual rendering surfaces less — see Auto-extracted fonts & colors.
Updating
Do I need to re-download new versions? No — Morgue auto-updates. Just click Restart & Update when prompted.
